Stop or change password expiration in windows vista


In Windows vista, passwords, by default, will expire after 42 days. Vista will notify the user, of the password expiry, 14 days in advance. However, you can stop password expiry in vista or change Password expiration Date in vista within an Administrator account or by using ‘Run as administrator” option.

Stop or change password expiration in vista:
§  Open start menu
§  Type cmd in white line (”Start Search”) area
§  Right click on cmd (at top) and click Run as administrator.
How to stop password Expiration in vista?
Type net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited and press Enter. This will stop password expiration in vista.Close the command prompt window, when you get “The command completed successfully” message.
How to change Password expiration Date in vista:
Type net accounts /maxpwage:(1 - 999) and press Enter. Here (1- 999) is the range, for the number of days that you can set the vista password to expire. For example, to set password expiration to 50 days, type net accounts /maxpwage:50. Close the command prompt window, when you get “The command completed successfully” message.
 
If you have this user account setup in vista, to logon automatically and change or remove the password, then ensure that you change or remove it here as well.
