Dell™ lnspiron™ 1210 Locks Up During Installation of PowerNap Software


Perform the steps below to resolve the issue.
  1. Press the power button to start the computer.
  2. Then press and release <F8> until a Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
  3. Using the arrow keys, highlight Safe Mode and press <Enter>.
  4. Log onto the administrator account.
  5. In Windows® XP, click Start, then Run, and then type CMD. Press <Enter>.

    In Windows Vista, right-click Accessories, then Command Prompt, and then select run as administrator.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following commands:

    Net stop  softosd

    sc delete softosd
  7. Power down and restart the computer normally.
  8. Download and install revision 1.2.9 of PowerNap software from the Dell Support site at the following link:

    R211988 (.EXE)

    This revision will install and permanently resolve the issue.
Note:


Even if your computer is not in a lockup state, it is advisable to download and use of version 1.2.9 of Powernap software.
