Perform the steps below to resolve the issue.
- Press the power button to start the computer.
- Then press and release <F8> until a Windows
Advanced Options menu appears.
- Using the arrow keys, highlight Safe Mode
and press <Enter>.
- Log onto the administrator account.
- In Windows® XP, click Start, then Run,
and then type CMD. Press <Enter>.
In Windows Vista™, right-click Accessories, then Command Prompt, and then select run as administrator. - At the command prompt, type the following commands:
Net stop softosd
sc delete softosd - Power down and
restart the computer normally.
- Download
and install revision 1.2.9 of PowerNap software from the Dell Support
site at the following link:
R211988 (.EXE)
This revision will install and permanently resolve the issue.

state, it is advisable to download and use of version 1.2.9 of Powernap
