How to fix incorrect service tag listed in the Dell Express Service Code Applet in Windows


Problem:  Some Dell systems out of Box, display the wrong service tag information in Windows (Service tag in BIOS and on Bottom doesn’t match the service tag in the START, Dell Accessories, Express Service Code Applet)

Discussion:  This issue occurs occasionally and is a fairly simple fix.  Editing the SYSINFO.DAT and EXPRESS.TXT files in C:\dell will resolve.

Resolution:  Browse to the C:\Dell  folder on the HDD.  Right Click and Edit SYSINFO data file (SYSINFO.DAT is the complete name, edit it using Notepad) Once you have the file open, you can edit the service tag and express service code, then save the file.  Next Edit EXPRESS.TXT the same way and save the file.
