Dell Inspiron™ 1010 Has No Audio While Using HDMI Output



When using High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) output video and audio to TV or display on Inspiron 1010, the system may not be able to output any audio through HDMI port, but set to use the internal speaker is OK.


Workaround:

Do not replace any hardware.

Dell Engineering is aware of the issue and will update this document when a solution becomes available.

As a workaround, perform the steps below to reinstall the Intel® High Definition Audio HDMI Driver.
  1. Plug-in HDMI cable to the system.
  2. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.
  3. Click Device Manager in Computer Management, expand Sound, video and game controllers, right-click Intel® High Definition Audio HDMI, and then click Uninstall.
  4. Confirm Device Removal, click OK, and then Restart system.
  5. After boot to system again, wait for several seconds, system will re-install the Intel® High Definition Audio HDMI driver automatically.
  6. Click Start, click Control Panel in the Start Menu, and then double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.
  7. Click the Audio tab, select HDMI Device from Sound playback drop down list , and then click OK.
