Get the Vista PC restore to work when "Repair from My computer" option doesn’t work in F8 menu or not available


Steps:

1. Insert the Dell Windows Vista DVD into the DVD drive, and then restart the computer.

2. During the startup process, repeatedly press <F12>.

3. In the Boot Device Menu, press the <Down Arrow> to select “Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive”, and then press <Enter>.

4. When the Press any key to boot from CD or DVD screen appears, immediately press any key to start the computer from the Windows Vista DVD.

5. On the lower-left corner of the Install now screen, click Repair your computer.

6. If the Windows Vista Setup program detects any problems on the computer, click No when the program displays the following message:
Windows found problems with your computer's startup options.

7. In the System Recovery Options window, under Operating System, click Windows Vista (TM) Version, even if this entry is already selected, and then click Next to display the Choose a recovery tool window.

8. Click on Command Prompt.

9. Type: path d:\windows;d:\windows\system32 and press <ENTER> key

10. Type: d: and press <ENTER> key.

11. Type: cd tools and press <ENTER> key.

12. Type: PCRestore and press the <ENTER> key and Dell Factory Image Restore window will appear.

13. Click on Next and Confirm Data Deletion dialog will appear, place a check mark beside "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition" for the final confirmation & click on Next when ready
14. Click Finish to reboot system.
