Windows 8: Kill the lock screen and boot straight to Desktop screen

·         Not a fan of the lock screen? To bypass it so you can just sign into Windows and get straight to work, you won't find a setting to do it. Instead, you'll have to use the Registry Editor.
o   Launch the Registry Editor, and, if you haven't already done so, to create a Registry key called Personalization in
o   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
o   Create a new DWORD value under the Personalization key by right-clicking it and selecting New --> DWORD (32-bit) Value. Rename the DWORD value NoScreenLock. Double click-it and change its value from 0 to 1. Now exit the Registry Editor.
o   The new setting should take effect immediately. The next time you reboot or wake your PC, you won't see the lock screen. Instead, you'll go straight to the Windows sign-in screen.
·         Here is the tip about how to setup Windows 8 to boot straight to Desktop and skip Metro/Start screen with Task Scheduler:
o   From the Start screen, open charms bar, type “task scheduler” and select Task Scheduler icon.
o   Within Task Scheduler, click “Create Basic Task” under Actions (Local). The wizard will let you enter the name (Recommend using “BootToDesk”) and optional description. Click Next button > check “When I log on” > Next > Select Start a Program “as the action > Next.
o   Type %systemroot%\explorer.exe as the Program/Script > click Next and then Finish button. (%systemroot% would be “C:” in 99% cases!)

o   Once you reboot the device and log in, you will go directly to the desktop with an File Explorer window.
