There is a new cool virus/malware out there folks. I’m
sure you’ve already heard of it, but I wanted to take a moment and give you
some more information about it and provide a good solution for resolving it.
The Malware/Virus hides all the files on your computer and
it’s accompanied by the lovely fake repair utility pictured below.
Customer may call in saying all the icons on their desktop have disappeared or
that their Start Menu is now blank. If you go to the C: drive you will
not see any listed files. If you click on the link below it will take you
to the Bleeping Computer website. The site has a great description of the
various “errors” that you will see as well as a complete listing of the
solution steps.
Please keep in mind that Malware/Virus infections is not
fully supported by us. While it’s okay to refer a customer to this site
and maybe get them started on the fix; this is something that they can and
should be undertaking on their own. Our official support policy is to
OSRI systems infected with Viruses/Malware. There is also the option of
sending them to the fee based RAS team, however someone good at following step
by step instructions should be able to easily follow the steps laid out on the
linked site.
